The original meaning of 仓 (cāng) is a tool woven from brambles for storing grain or other materials. A steel silo is a storage tool made of riveted, welded, or assembled steel plates; it originally referred to the silo body of a steel warehouse, but can also refer to a small steel silo. The development of steel silos has a history of over 100 years, with steel silos used for grain storage originating in the early 20th century. The application and development of steel silo technology in my country's grain industry started relatively late. In 1982, Honghe Farm in Heilongjiang Province introduced galvanized corrugated steel silos from the United States, marking the earliest modern steel silo complex in China.
Steel silos are characterized by their small footprint, light weight, low foundation requirements, short construction period, low material consumption, labor saving, and low cost. Their construction period is on average half that of reinforced concrete silos, and construction is largely unaffected by seasons or weather. Steel silos can be equipped with complete automated operating systems, leading to more scientific, rational, and networked management, effectively reducing operating costs. Prefabricated steel silos and similar types are characterized by high standardization, factory prefabrication, on-site assembly, and high mobility. Their fully enclosed design helps to avoid material dust and pollution.
