Structure of steel silos

Steel silos mainly consist of a roof, walls, floor, and supporting structure.

Roof: Mostly conical or spherical, made of steel plate or concrete, used for sealing and protection.

Walls: Cylindrical steel plate structure, typically 4-20mm thick (thicker with larger diameter), bearing the lateral pressure of the material.

Floor: Conical or flat bottom, made of steel plate or concrete, equipped with unloading devices.

Supporting Structure: Steel columns or concrete supports, ensuring stability.

With technological advancements, modern silos are generally equipped with advanced monitoring and automated control systems. The monitoring system uses sensors to monitor parameters such as material height, temperature, and humidity within the silo in real time and transmits the data to the control center. The automated control system automatically adjusts the opening of the inlet and outlet gates, the operation of the ventilation system, etc., according to preset parameter ranges, ensuring the silo is always in optimal working condition. Furthermore, the design of steel silos must also consider safety factors. For example, explosion-proof devices and emergency discharge ports should be installed to deal with possible emergencies such as fires, explosions or material blockages, and to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
